A goalkeeper, Oscar Sein Munguia Zelaya was gunned down and killed by unknown gunmen while chatting with friends. The horrific incident allegedly happened when the Club Deportivo Vida goalkeeper was out with friends at a hotel bar in La Ceiba, Honduras.
The bar is located in the coastal area El Paseo de los Ceibenos. According to local reports, there was an altercation outside the venue.
It’s claimed one man involved in the scuffle opened fire and fled the scene on a motorcycle. Munguia Zelaya, 27, was killed alongside an unidentified person in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The National Police have immediately launched an investigation and are seeking to establish a motive for the murder. The keeper played for a host of clubs in the Honduran League including Victoria, Villanueva and Arsenal de Roatan.
Vida are currently eighth in the Honduran top flight. Munguia Zelaya was on the bench for his club’s last game, a home win against Olimpia.
